WYE VALLEY BREWERY 5

Raising a glass to the next generation

Wye Valley Brewery has been brewing beer in the Herefordshire countryside for 40 years. And not just any beer – proper beer.

While the locals were still raising a pint to their best bitter, younger punters were raising eyebrows at the word ale. And with flashy challenger brands turning up with cans, causes and cryptic tasting notes, it was starting to feel like Wye Valley might get left behind.

They wanted to honour their rich heritage without getting stuck in the past – no flashy gimmicks, just a new way to stay top of the game. So, they called us.

First up, a strategic spring clean. We looked under the bonnet (and in the beer fridge). What we found was a brand full of authenticity – it was just hidden behind a few dusty old codes.

So we sharpened the story. Not old-school. Not trend-chasing. Just really good beer – brewed properly, proudly local, and full of real character. In short? A modern beer with real roots.

Next came something brand new. A lager. The very first in Wye Valley’s history. A bold step into unfamiliar territory for a brewery best known for its bitters.

Launching a lager when you’re synonymous with ale is a bit like teaching your grandad to TikTok. Brave. Risky. Weirdly heartwarming if you get it right.

So, we gave it a launch that was bold, bar-ready and just the right amount of cheeky. We led with the strapline ‘The best lager by a country mile’ – a confident nod to its countryside roots. The design swerved tired heritage tropes in favour of something brighter and more characterful – a visual blend of rural charm and fresh energy.

As for the tone of voice? That came straight from the brewery floor. Down-to-earth, warm, and quietly confident – inspired by the people who brew the stuff. The kind of voice that knows its hops but doesn’t take itself too seriously.

It wasn’t just a new beer. It was a statement. Wye Valley’s still got it. And now, it’s got range.

relaunch

We built a brand that looked as good on a hand pump as it did on a can. One that bottled up the brewery’s scenery, personality and soul – then poured it out across every touchpoint.

From the iconic core range to their limited-edition specials to the brand-new lager, every product got the glow-up it deserved. Earthy textures met fresh, vibrant colour. The tone of voice moved on too, from serious and traditional to warm, witty and proudly down-to-earth. And yes, the sales followed suit.
